Marapi Volcano Erupts Again in Indonesia

Indonesia’s Marapi volcano erupted today, releasing ash up to 1,300 meters from the peak, just six weeks after a deadly eruption in December.

The country’s geological agency reported at least two eruptions, urging the evacuation of people within 4.5 km of the eruption center. With the risk of lava flows in rivers and valleys, the agency is taking precautions.

In December, over 20 people lost their lives in Marapi’s eruption. Indonesia, situated in the seismically active “Pacific Ring of Fire,” faces frequent volcanic activity.

The recent eruption covered nearby areas with ash, prompting respiratory checkups for residents and the distribution of masks.
