Mauritanian Pres. Mohammad Ould Ghazouani re-elected


The Mauritanian Independent Electoral Commission announced on Monday that incumbent President Mohammad Ould Ghazouani won the Presidential elections which were held on Saturday.

Head of the commission, Ould Abdul Jalil, announced in a press conference — exceprts of which were monitored in Rabat — that the incumbent president Ghazouani won the elections with 554,956 votes, 52.12 percent of the ballots.

Human rights activist Biram Ould Dah Abeid came in second with 22.10 percent of the votes; and leader of the National Rally for Reform and Development party, Hamadi Ould Sidi el Moctar, got 12.78 percent of the votes — in third place.
