More Than 60 Sports Facilities Registered in Oman till 202

Muscat, The number of governmental sports facilities in the Sultanate reached 67 by the end of 2020, according to statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

As many as 278,064 people benefited from those facilities (213,488 males and 64,576 females) comprising a drop by 76.7% compared to 2019 when the number of beneficiaries stood at 1,200,000

The Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex came first in terms of beneficiaries reaching 109,115, as 79.6% were males and 20.4% females.

The center’s statistics further indicated that the largest number of government sports facilities was for sports clubs, amounting to 44, which is 66% of the total government sports facilities, followed by 12 sports centers and 11 sports complexes.

Additionally, the number of spectators who attended the sports complexes in 2020 stood at 94,435, a decrease by 86% compared to 691,000 in 2019.

The number of international and local participations of sports federations during 2020 stood at 48 competitions and championships, 123 training courses and lectures, 33 camps and 6 conferences, seminars and forums.

Moreover, the number of participants in activities by sports affairs departments decreased by 26.1%, from 20,937 participants in 2019 to 15,474 participants in 2020.

A’Dakhiliyah Governorate came first in terms of participants in sports activities in 2020, by 18.4%.

The Paralympics Committee and the Omani Committee for University Sports accounted for 44.3% of the total participants in the sports committees during 2020, compared to 2019, when they accounted for 12.1%.

The total sports activities implemented by the sports committees reached 27, in which 857 players participated (647 males and 210 females). The total number of medals won in 2020 by the national teams stood at 143, comprising a fall by 62.9% compared to 2019. The medals won are 15 gold medals, 113 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.

The number of participants in summer activities reached 11,137, comprising 5,783 males and 5,354 females.

Meanwhile, the number of players with disabilities in various sports reached 110 players, comprising a rise by 22.2%, of which males constituted 93.6% while females amounted to 6.4%. The number of basketball players on wheelchairs reached 24, while the number of goalball players stood at 30. Moreover, the number of players in athletics for people with physical and visual disabilities reached 31 players. Furthermore, there were 7 players of chess and 18 players of blind football.
