Abu Dhabi: The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City stressed to hairdressing salons the importance of compliance with the standards and stipulations of hygiene and public health, calling upon the public visiting these facilities to ensure that these standards are fully adhered, and to report the Municipality any offences or malpractices spotted that have the potential of inflicting harm on the health and integrity of the community.
This call was made in the wake of an extensive awareness and educative campaign spanning 57 men’s hair-dressing salons in Bani Yas with the aim of educating staff on the means of sterilizing hair-cutting tools and their proper use, along with the sterilization of floors, caring for personal hygiene in terms of clipping nails, shaving the beard, maintaining a decent appearance, and wearing a white dress.
It also cautioned both the staff and visitors to the risks associated with the use of banned materials in these salons.
During the campaign, a site survey was made to identify the health condition of salons and staff where samples were collected from tools and equipment, detergents, and sterilization systems. Samples were also drawn from the interior environment of salons for microbiological culture to verify the existence of any bacteria, fungus and other microorganisms.
Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director of Public Health at the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, who spearheaded the campaign team, underlined the importance of upgrading the health monitoring mechanism in all facilities particularly as far as the community health and safety is concerned.
“The Municipality applies stringent health conditions on staffs of these outlets, and the equipment in use which must be fully compliant with the standards of health and public safety,” he added.
Al Rumaithi commended the results of the campaign; which aimed to educate owners and operators of hair-dressing salons on the health practices ought to be observed in their outlets, and educate visitors of these salons on the proper means of safeguarding their safety and health, prompting them to report any violations or offences in breach of the applicable stipulations and health standards inside these facilities.
He added that following up beauty salons and centers as well as other facilities of relevance to the public is not linked to a one-time campaign or any specific timing, rather the municipal follow-up teams carry out continuous daily tracking and health monitoring tasks in the context of the Municipality’s vision of ensuring a superior standard of living and sustainable environment for all residents of Abu Dhabi city.
