The National Committee to Implement UNSC Resolution No. 1325, titled “Women, Peace and Security”, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized on Thursday a forum for the 24th anniversary of the resolution. The forum was held in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations (UN) Coordinator, and the Delegation of the European Union (EU), with the participation of the Ministries of Interior, Defense, Justice, Media, and Public Prosecution.
The forum, held in the UN House, aimed at highlighting the achievements of Kuwaiti women in various fields, and the sectors that have witnessed development through women’s efforts.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs Ambassador Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah said in her speech that Kuwait has achieved great progress in promoting the women, peace and security agenda, as established in December 2023.

elation to peace and security, she affirmed.
Kuwait cooperates with prestigious regional and international organizations, such as ESCWA, UN Women, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to raise awareness and implement critical training programs on women’s rights, she stated.
“We believe that teamwork and shared commitment are essential to achieving a future in which women are strong agents of peace and security,” said the Assistant Minister.
She praised the pivotal role of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in strengthening the strategic partnership with NATO, and raising it further.
Regarding Kuwaiti women accomplishments, women’s participation in the police forces has gone up to 900 women, as well as 19 new women recruits in the National Guard, which is a historical milestone in Kuwait and the region.
Women participation in the justice field has grown, with the employment of 19 women judges, in addition to four directors of public prosecution offices,
enhancing progress in these fields.
Kuwaiti women contribution has expanded to include the diplomatic field, as women constitute 22 percent of the diplomatic corps and work in international capitals, and organizations, Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah said that we have made great progress, but much work is still needed, as women are the most affected by conflict, facing the highest rates of displacement, injury, and loss.
She urged the international community to continue efforts to renew commitments, meet challenges ahead, promote gender equality and peace, and ensure women’s voices are heard and valued in all aspects of decision making, and the impact conflict has on women.
On her part, UN Secretary-General Representative to Kuwait Ghada Al-Taher praised in a speech Kuwait’s role and commitment to the agenda.
She stressed that Kuwait’s ranking in the Women, Peace and Security Georgetown Institute Index rose from 123rd to 61st globally, from 2021-2022 to 2023-2024.
She added that Kuwait has advanced ten points i
n the global gender gap, as Kuwait ranks third at the Arab level in the Women, Peace and Security field.
Kuwait has a leading role in the Arab region, the Gulf countries, and at the global level, referring to the speech of the Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
In His Highness’s speech he encouraged countries to recommit to promoting international peace and security during a speech at the Future Summit in New York.
EU Ambassador to Kuwait Anne Koistinen said in a similar speech, that the Union places the agenda at the heart of its priorities for the Foreign and Security policies, stressing that the agenda is an essential tool to ensure respect and security for women.
