Netanyahu Wins 5th Term

Gaza, Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister won the Israeli national election, securing a record fifth term in office.

The preliminary results show that Netanyahu won 96 percent of the votes ahead of his rival Benny Gantz.

Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud won 37 of Knesset seats, against 36 for centrist Blue and White, headed by Netanyahu’s rival, former general Benny Gantz, According to Reuters.

The right-wing bloc, in which Netanyahu is likely to form the government, is expected to get 65 seats in total against 55 seats for the center-left bloc.

The new parliament is due to swear-in on 23 April. The new government will swear in by early June 2019.
