New cases drop by 62% in May: MOH

The numbers of Covid-19 cases in the Sultanate have gradually decreased in May compared to April (although the death figures are still level) and this should not be a reason for any lax adherence to precautionary measures that everyone must understand, said the Ministry of Health.

The statistical analyst at MOH, Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Maymani, said that between May 1 and 20 there was a decrease in the number of new cases in the first 16 days, which increased slightly at the beginning of this week.

He added that during the same period the recovery cases were more than the new cases, which led to an increase in the cure rate from 89.5 to 92.5 percent.

He said that 14,503 new cases, a drop of 62 percent compared to 23,475 new cases in April.

The number of hospital inpatients decreased by 20 percent or 169 from 833 to 664 as of May 20.

The number of ICU patients saw a decrease of 24 cases or 9% from at the end of 275 to 251 as of May 20.
