OCCI Highlights Initiatives for Second Half of 2022

Muscat, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) today highlighted its initiatives for the second half of 2022.

This comes within the framework of OCCI’s role in enhancing the business milieu and attracting investments as the official representative of the private sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

In a press conference, Eng. Ridha Juma Al Saleh, Chairman of OCCI’s Board of Directors said that through the first half of 2022, the chamber worked on several initiatives in line with achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Those initiatives, Al Saleh pointed out, aim to develop the business environment in Oman by providing suggestions and perspectives that help in decision making. OCCI also works towards localizing foreign investments through various mechanisms, including B2B meetings between businesspeople from Oman and other countries. It also provides data and opens communication channels with investors, as well as supporting business and economic cooperation between OCCI and its counterparts in Arab and non-Arab countries. OCCI is also planning to dispatch business delegations to new destinations in the upcoming period.

He added that OCCI also contributed to forming closed joint stock companies in a number of governorates, such as Al Buraimi, Musandam, A’Dhahirah and South A’Sharqiyah. Those companies will enhance development investments in the mentioned governorates.

At the moment, OCCI is preparing a study on increasing Oman’s competitiveness in investment fields and establishing projects in various economic sectors. This aims to implement the best international and regional practices in easing and simplifying procedures, applying fees and taxes on the private sector. The move will contribute to attracting more foreign investments, which will boost the gross domestic product (GDP) and create job opportunities, Al Saleh said.
