Representing President of The Republic, Michel Aoun, Caretaker Youth and Sports Minister, Vartine Ohanian, on Friday visited Armenian Minister of Education, Science, and Culture, Fahram Tomanian, accompanied by Armenian Ambassador to Lebanon Vahagn Atabekian, and Ambassador of Lebanon to Armenia, Maya Dagher.
The Armenian minister stressed the importance of mutual visits and strengthening of relations between the two countries, noting that the Lebanese economic crisis and Beirut Port blast explosion have been a massive blow to Lebanon and the Lebanese.
Hoping to overcome all challenges, the Armenian minister said that it was agreed to sign a letter of intent in the field of youth and sports to conduct mutual visits between Armenia and Lebanon in a bid to consolidate cooperation, in addition to discussing issues related to education, while emphasizing the importance of setting up student exchange programs between the two countries.
In turn, Minister Ohanian thanked Tomanian for the warm welcome, noting that “the purpose of this visit is to represent the Lebanese President in the celebration to be held on April 24 on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the Armenian genocide.”
She relayed President Aoun’s support to the Armenian people and their just cause, noting that Lebanon was the first country in the Arab world whose parliament recognized the Armenian genocide.
Ohanian finally suggested “signing a memorandum of understanding and exchanging experiences in the fields of youth and physical education.”
