Oil and Environment Minister welcomes appointment of COP28 UAE President-Designate

Oil and Environment Minister, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina, has welcomed the naming of the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber, as President-Designate for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), to be hosted by the UAE at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

Dr. Bin Daina expressed Bahrain’s confidence in the UAE’s ability to host COP28 and its accompanying events and programmes with professionalism thanks to its distinguished capabilities.

The Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs made the statements following the issuance of the directives of the UAE President, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed, to HH Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Court, to appoint Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber as President-Designate for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28).

Shamma Al Mazrui, UAE Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and Razan Al Mubarak, President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), will join Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber’s COP28 UAE team as the Youth Climate Champion and UN Climate Change High-Level Champion, respectively.

Dr. Bin Daina highlighted the UAE’s pioneering role in tackling various international issues, including environment, climate change and renewable energy, expressing Bahrain’s wish for a successful COP28 at the UAE.

He also commended Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber’s wide-ranging expertise in the fields of economy and energy.

He also praised the rich experience of Shamma Al Mazrui and Razan Al Mubarak, wishing them every success.
