Oman Flour Mills plans Mini Factory Cluster

Seeking to expand its already considerable presence in the food sector, publicly listed Oman Flour Mills (OFM) says it plans to set up a first-of-its kind Mini Factory Cluster at a suitable location in the Sultanate of Oman.

OFM CEO Haitham al Fannah said the initiative will primarily focus on potato processed products, healthy snacking options and alternative protein options in the first phase.

“(The project is) in the evaluation phase,” said the CEO. “Multiple studies have been concluded and we are in the phase of finalizing the best location for the cluster and the cluster engineering design,” he added in exclusive remarks to the Observer.

The company, Haitham al Fannah said, is currently studying suitable locations for the establishment of the Mini Factory Cluster.

“We are looking into multiple industrial plots in the Sultanate, and it has yet to be finalized, however our priority is to be close to Sohar Port as much as possible as our aim is also to penetrate the export market and being close to Sohar will give us a logistical advantage to access the international market,” he stated.

Asked about a timeline for the implementation of the venture, the CEO added: “Our aim is to award the civil contract for the construction in Q1 of 2023 and a programme for the installation of the equipment will be aligned with civil works completion and readiness of the building.”

The proposed Mini Factory Cluster is part of a sizable portfolio of new initiatives planned by Oman Flour Mills to diversify its product offerings in the food sector. The company aims to become the first in the domestic industry to venture into Plant-Based Meat Products – a multibillion industry that is growing exponentially around the world.

The project, set to be the first of its kind in the country, is expected to be launched “within 1 – 2 years”, although this would depend on “penetration and opportunities as well”, he added.
