Oman Hosts 3rd Meeting of GCC-Jordan Social Development Team

Muscat, The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, today hosted the third meeting of the joint action GCC-Jordan team operating in the field of social development for the period 2021-2025.

The meeting discussed mechanisms for activating the proposed plan of action between Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the Kingdom of Jordan in social affairs. The plan covers the exchange of expertise in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.

The proposed solutions for this segment include finding alternatives, like guardianship homes, and supporting them with a package of services. The plan also deals with the protection of victims of violence and human trafficking, as well as juveniles facing adverse conditions.

The meeting touched on the significance of participating in experiments related to aftercare services for those who pass out of social institutions. It envisaged ways to develop a joint strategy for GCC-Jordan cooperation in all areas of social, psychological and economic support for individuals and families in need.

The meeting also underlined the need to support civil society institutions, explore successful experiences in the field and provide institutionalized social support for women.
