Oman Inscribes Arabic Calligraphy on UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

Paris, Represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Sultanate of Oman succeeded in registering Arabic Calligraphy in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The inscription was made through the presentation of a joint Arabic file during the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage, currently convened in Paris until 18 December 2021.

The file was submitted to UNESCO under the auspices of the Arab League’s Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). Sixteen Arab states contributed to the compilation of the file, which was prepared in 2019 and submitted in early 2020 after it met all criteria for inscription on UNESCO’s global list.
