Oman Marks Arab Agricultural Day

Oman Marks Arab Agricultural Day

Muscat, The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, joined the rest of Arab countries in marking the Arab Agriculture Day.

The Arab Agricultural Day falls on 27 September of each year which is also the date in which the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) began performing its duties in 1972.

The organization chose the theme: “Towards Resilient Agriculture and Food Systems Responsive To Changes” for this year’s celebration.

The Sultanate was represented in the online event broadcasted from Alfaisal University in Saudi Arabia by Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources.

The Ministry plays an essential role in developing the agricultural sector in the Sultanate through implementing many agricultural projects, making decisions and defining policies to increase production, diversifying food projects and enhancing food security.

The total volume of plant production in Oman reached 3,034 thousand tons in 2020, compared to 3,018 thousand tons in 2019. The increase is attributed to the increase in productivity as a result of using modern technologies and adopting integrated packages for production and prevention.

The Ministry has exerted great efforts in producing agricultural seedlings and distributing them to farmers.
