Oman Marks GCC Statistics Day

Oman Marks GCC Statistics Day

Muscat, The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), joined the GCC countries in celebrating the GCC Statistics Day, which annually falls on 24 December.

The celebration, themed “Statistics keeping pace with extraordinary circumstances”, reflects the lessons learned by statistics centres in the GCC and the world at large on the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic’s consequences changed work environments and caused an information boom due to the economic repercussions, which increased demand on specific types of information.

The Electronic Census 2020 of Population, Residences and Establishments (eCensus 2020) conducted by Oman is considered as a role model at the regional and international levels in terms of swiftly transforming from a traditional field census to administrative records.

Oman, represented by NCSI, accomplished a global achievement in the field of Big Data by benefiting from the data generated through smart phones, which are considered sources of mega data in drawing official statistic indicators on tourism, residences, and population movement in the Sultanate of Oman.
