The forum was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in cooperation with the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the Pathfinders Group ‘For Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies.’

It aimed to involve specialist policymakers, decision-makers and civil society organizations in the Arab region to find practical solutions to address the lack of equality in times of crises, and identifying the links between inequality and multiple crises.

The forum reviewed best practices in regions that were able to reduce inequalities in times of crises and developed long-term policies to confront crisis risks and ensure stability.

The forum included the holding of
the tenth meeting of ESCWA’s Expert Group on Social Protection Reform in the Arab region.

Moreover, the meeting discussed the progress made by member countries in developing country profile reports for their comprehensive social protection systems. Representatives of these countries also provided a brief overview of their experiences, challenges, and best practices that were gained during this process.
