The Sultanate was represented in the meeting by Eng. Yaqoob Khalfan al-Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries.

The meeting comes within the framework of the WTO’s efforts to come up with a multilateral agreement on regulating fisheries in the 12th ministerial meeting, which will be held on 30 November in Geneva.

The Sultanate seeks to maintain its interests through participating in the negotiations of various topics.

The negotiations aim to reach a multilateral agreement in the WTO to regulate the support offered by countries in fisheries. The negotiation’s objective is to achieve the sustainable development goal 6.14 from the United Nations Agenda (2030) for sustainable development goals (SDGs), which were agreed upon in 2015. The purpose of the agenda is limiting the negative effects of the given support on fish stock all over the world.
