Oman Participates in UN Conference on Least Developed Countries

Muscat, The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Economy, took part in the 5th United Nations (UN) Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), held in Doha, Qatar.

The conference aimed to contribute to setting up a new and ambitious programme of action for the least developed countries.

Oman’s delegation was headed by Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy.

The conference also aimed to build capacities and harness the capabilities of science, technology and innovation to confront multidimensional weaknesses and achieve sustainable development goals. It also targeted supporting structural transformation in a bid to achieve prosperity.

The conference also focused on enhancing the participation of the least developed countries in international trade, in addition to highlighting the importance of regional integration and confronting climate change.

On the sidelines of the conference, Al Saqri met, separately, with Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Minister of Planning and Development of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Oliy Majlis (Senate) of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During those meeting, several matters related to enhancing joint economic cooperation were reviewed.
