Oman Society for Writers and Literates Inducts First GCC Cultural Forum

Muscat, Omani Society for Writers and Literates’ First GCC Cultural Forum kicked off here today under the auspices of Dr. Abdullah Nassir Al Harrasi, Minister of Information.

The opening ceremony included a speech by Eng. Said Mohammed Al Saqlawi, board chairman of Omani Society for Writers and Literates (OSWL). Al Saqlawi said that the forum figures among tasks of the OSWL aimed at encouraging Omani and Arab writers and literates to enrich the literary march in the Sultanate of Oman.

The opening of two-day forum included an evening session in which Omani and other GCC poets took part.

During the event, Dr. Hamoud Al Dughaishi presented a working paper titled “A Combination of Shades”, which was a critique about a collection of poems by Abdullah Al Balushi.

Dr. Yousef Al Maamari presented a paper titled “Omani prose poem” in which he explores years of his poetic output.

Kuwait researcher Amal Abdullah’s paper dealt with the poetic movement in her country. It was a comparative study of poetry across the ages.

Dr. Abdullah Al Zahrani of Saudi Arabia presented a paper on the survival of rhymed poetry.

Meanwhile, the wilayat of Nizwa will host the programmes of the second day of the forum tomorrow under the auspices of Sheikh Hilal Said Al Hajri, Governor of A’Dakhiliyah.

Critics from Oman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain will elaborate on various forms of literature.
