Omani Business Delegation Meets Sir Lanka Labour Minister

Colombo, The Omani business delegation headed by Eng. Ridha Juma Al Saleh, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) today discussed the recruitment of Sri Lankan labour in Oman.

During a meeting with Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Labour of Sri Lanka, the two sides presented various initiatives that covered recruiting workers specialized in taking care of the elderly and people with disabilities.

The two sides agreed on a new mechanism that aims at reducing the cost of recruiting domestic workers.

Another meeting is scheduled to be held tomorrow (Tuesday) with officials of the Sri Lankan recruitment sector to find a new mechanism for labour recruitment in different specializations including domestic workers.

The Sri Lankan Minister of Labour confirmed to the Omani side that a new mechanism for labour insurance in Sri Lanka will be implemented next May 2022, and it will cover labourers who are currently working in Oman.

He also commended the strength of the bilateral relations binding the two countries. He hoped that the Omani Business delegation’s visit would achieve good results that meet aspirations of businessmen in both countries.

The meeting was attended by Omar Libi Amar Ajod, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Oman.
