Omani Research Team Registers 4 Fungi Known for First Time in the World

Muscat, Acting in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), an Omani team from the Oman Centre for Animal and Plant Genetic Resources (Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation) registered four large-size fungi known for the first time in the world.

The new finds belong to 7 families common in the Governorate of Dhofar.

The research forms part of a collection, classification and conservation of large fungi that are visible to the bare human eye, since they measure more than 1 centimetre in length and width.

The team reported that the fungi fall within two families of plurotoids and one family of auriculariaceae. It noted that the research was published in various international scholarly journals.
