Online investigation system “Burhan” launched

Muscat: The Public Prosecution Department on Thursday launched an online (distance) investigation system codenamed ‘Burhan’ (Evidence) that introduces good quality and speed in accomplishing tasks.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed Sultan al Busaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council. It was attended by Sayyid Khalifa Said al Busaidi, Chairman of the Supreme Court, Nasr Khamis al Sawaee, the Attorney General, the Head of the Court of Appeal and the Court of First Instance in Muscat Governorate, among other officials.

Al Busaidi told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the new distance investigation system will develop and accelerate instruments of investigation and accomplishment of tasks.

He added that steps are under way to finalize digital transformation in all related services. He underscored the significance of linking the Supreme Judicial Council with other government departments concerned.

In line with the new system, the Public Prosecution Department abolishes the presence of a guarantor/sponsor when investigating misdemeanour or other offences unless deemed necessary by the investigation procedure. Whatever the case, the documents of the guarantor/sponsor and the accused shall not be seized. However, when necessary, a travel ban decision might be issued and applied.

The application of the new system of “Burhan” is a step forward in realizing the goals of Oman Vision 2040 for establishing a sustainable justice system that utilizes modern techniques needed in the future.
