Opinion Polls on Social Protection Scheme Begin

Opinion Polls on Social Protection Scheme Begin

Muscat, A three-pronged approach to study social protection in the Sultanate began today. The polls elicit public opinion through dialogue sessions that focus on different social segments.

The three-week study also covers direct meetings with decision makers and service providers. It targets more than 2,000 citizens of different age groups, starting from people aged 18 and above.

The study, in its diverse tracks, seeks to assess the current levels of public service and the social protection scheme in Oman. The aim is to maintain and develop social protection.

Social protection is defined as a set of policies espoused by a country to provide a decent life to all individuals of society throughout their life, with emphasis on low-income segments.

As part of the programme, 27 videotaped dialogue sessions will be held with different segments, among them beneficiaries of the Social Security Scheme, self-employed individuals, widows, pensioners, the old-aged, the divorced and job seekers.

Social participation activities figure among the most significant methods of policy making. The participants’ observations often expose loopholes and help improve services.
