The Seminar on Small Desalination Units for Sustainable Agricultural Development (Opportunities and Challenges) will open tomorrow / Monday /morning at Al Nahdha Resort in the Wilayat of Barka under the patronage of Dr. Fuad bin Jaafar al- Sagwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. The 2-day seminar is organized by the Omani Water Society.
The seminar aims to exchange knowledge, information and experiences among researchers, government institutions, decision-makers, policy makers, the private sector and non-governmental organizations, use of sustainable desalination techniques and saline solution management, raise awareness and improve farmers’ capacities to achieve best results in the use of desalination technologies, identify challenges and propose solutions and options to avoid environmental impact of water desalination through the use of renewable energies and good waste management.
The seminar will discuss 20 working papers, including experiments and research conducted in the Sultanate by universities, research centers and ministries, such as the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, the Middle East Center for Desalination Research and the desalination plant in Barka.
