PACA Advisory No. 2 on Tropical Cyclone Luabn in Arabian Sea

Muscat, The latest weather charts and

satellite imageries of the National Multi-Hazard and Early Warning

Centre show the intensification of the cyclonic storm (Luban) to a

tropical cyclone (Category 1). It is currently located at latitude 14.1N

and longitude 59.1E about 600 km away from Salalah city, with

surface winds speed ranging between 64 to 74 knots (119 to 137

km/h).

The advisory issued today by the Public Authority for Civil

Aviation (PACA) said that the tropical cyclone (Luban) continues

moving in the west/northwest direction towards the coastal areas of the

Governorate of Dhofar and the Yemeni Republic with chances of

further intensification to Category (2) within 48 hours.

The Governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta will be affected by

indirect impacts starting from today, 10 October 2018

with high sea waves ranging between (3.0 to 4.0 meter) and fresh

wind. The isolated rains expected to start from Friday, 12 October 2018.

Direct impacts of the tropical cyclone (Luban) represented in

heavy rains and fresh wind expected to affect the Governorates of

Dhofar and Al Wusta starting from Saturday’s afternoon, 13 October

2018 with maximum wave height ranging between (6.0 to 8.0 meter).

The PACA advices all to follow the weather bulletins and take

precautions regarding to wadis and flash floods and avoid riding the

sea.
