PACA Alert No. 1 on Tropical Cyclone Luban in Arabian Sea

Muscat, The latest weather charts and satellite

imageries of the National Multi-Hazard and Early Warning Centre show

that the Tropical Cyclone (Luban) continues to move to West/Northwest

direction towards Yemeni coasts and the adjacent Dhofar coast with

chance of intensification to (Category 2) within 48 hours. The centre of

the Tropical Cyclone (Luban) is located at latitude 14.6N and

longitude 58.0E, around 490 km away from Salalah city, with surface

winds speed ranging between 64 to 74 knots (119 to 137 km/h).

The bulletin issued today by the Public Authority for Civil

Aviation (PACA) said that numerical weather prediction shows potential

indirect impacts of the cyclone expected on the Governorate of Dhofar

and the southern parts of Governorate of Al Wusta starting from today

(Thursday), with chance of isolated rains, fresh winds of about 20 � 25

knots and rising height of sea ranging between 3 meter � 5 meter. The

direct impacts of heavy rains, sometimes thundershower and fresh

winds of about 30 � 40 knots expected to affect the Governorate of

Dhofar and the southern parts of the Governorate of Al Wusta starting

from Saturday, 13 October 2018 with rising sea waves heights ranging

between 6 meter � 8 meter.

The PACA advices all to follow the weather bulletins and take

precautions regarding wadis and flash floods, and avoid riding the sea.
