Palestinians Celebrate Jerusalem as Capital of Islamic Culture 2019

Jericho, A concert in which about 60 musicians and artists from several countries around the world was held in the occupied West Bank city of Jericho, on the occasion of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Declaration of Jerusalem as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2019

The Palestinians chose to announce launching events from the city of Jericho because of Israeli control over the city it occupied in 1967. Israel worked over the past years to fence Jericho with a concrete wall that made entry to the city through huge iron gates and requiring Israeli approval.

The Muslim ministers of culture adopted four capitals for Islamic culture, namely Jerusalem for the Arab region, Tunis for the Arab region, Bandar Seri Begawan; the capital of Brunei for the Asian region and Bissau; the capital of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau for the African region.
