Permanent Documentary Exhibition Opened at Royal Cemetery in ZanzibarRESISTANCE TARGETS GATHERING OF ENEMY SOLDIERS EAST OF BIRKET RISHA

Zanzibar: The National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) today opened a permanent documentary and historical exhibition of the Royal Cemetery in Zanzibar. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Mudrick Soraqa, Minister of Tourism and Heritage in Zanzibar, in the presence of Dr. Hamad Mohammed Al Dhawyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority.

The NRAA worked in cooperation with the authorities concerned in Zanzibar to set specifications and requirements for the restoration of the Royal Cemetery. The works included conducting a historical study based on Omani, Zanzibar and European archival documents on the history of the cemetery, the names of dignitaries buried in the cemetry and the stages of its expansion, right from the dynasties of sons of Sultan Sayyid Said bin Sultan.

The documents also gave briefings about the graves of the Sultan and the rest of the family members, related rewritten evidence and other necessary data.

In its three halls, the exhibition focused on the per
sonage interred there, the dates of death and the periods in which each one lived.

The documentary exhibition was supported by pictures and excerpts from Arab newspapers issued in Zanzibar or European newspapers that dealt with the dates of death and details of the death event recorded in three Languages: Arabic, Swahili and English.

The opening ceremony was attended by ministers and undersecretaries at Zanzibar government, Said Salim Al Sanawi, Consul General of the Sultanate of Oman in Zanzibar, and other Omani dignitaries in Zanzibar.
