Press Conference on Amending Traffic Law Executive Regulation

Col. Eng. Mohammed bin Awadh al- Rowas, Director General of Traffic said that amending some of the provisions of the Traffic Law Executive Regulation comes in a bid to keep pace with the amendments of the Traffic Law.

‘ The amendments of the Traffic Law Executive Regulation shall come into effect from March 2018 and hopefully this will contribute to reducing the number of traffic accidents and injuries, said the Director General of Traffic in a press conference.

‘ The decision amends some of the provisions of the regulations about the licensing and registration of vehicles and driving licenses. The penalty for 13 traffic violations, out of total 450 violations, has been increased. The penalty for four violations has been increased from RO10 to RO15, he added.

“52 violations have been introduced to keep pace with the amendments made to the new traffic law. The traffic points calculation at the traffic record has been reduced to one year. Moreover, ROP seeks to reduce the number bad behaviors and traffic accidents. It also endeavors to monitor closely the traffic accidents indices in all governorates through the daily and monthly statistics, he furthered.

‘ The new law allows women to drive taxi vehicles. Work is underway to construct 8 Traffic Safety Institutes at the various governorates to provide the required training courses and carry out the necessary awareness campaigns’, he concluded.
