Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission

Manama, The Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC) today held its regular meeting, under the chairmanship of Ghada Hameed Habib, following the issuance of a royal order appointing her as an Ombudswoman.

PDRC Chairperson welcomed the member of the Commission, and wished them every success in carrying out their duties.

She also extended thanks to the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Nawaf Mohammed Al-Maawda, for the efforts he had exerted as PDRC Chairman, contributing to its successes, as well as accumulated experience and ability to issue reports and make recommendations.

The panel discussed PDRC’s plans in the coming period, including inspection visits, in addition to the ongoing modernisation projects in a number of reformation and remand centres and social care facilities. It also reviewed a draft report ahead of its publication.

Ghada Habib affirmed the PDRC’s keenness to consolidate its efforts, build on the previous achievements and be informed about the inspection mechanisms at prisons and reformation facilities, in accordance with international standards.
