Representatives Council endorses consensual 4-year Government Programme

The Council of Representatives today held an extraordinary meeting in which it endorsed the consensual edition of the Government Action Plan 2023-2026.

On the occasion, Representatives Council Speaker, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, extended deepest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the approval of the Government Programme, commending the prominent role played by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in attaining such a national accomplishment.

Speaker Al-Musallam also praised the constructive cooperation of the government team, led by Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, who, he said, responded positive to the remarks and visions of the Representatives Council.

He added that the approval of the Government Programme is in line with the provisions of the Constitution, particularly the constitutional amendments of 2012 which granted the Council of Representatives wide-ranging prerogatives to study the Government Action Plan and approve it.

He also expressed thanks and appreciation to the parliamentary committee in charge of studying the Government Programme, and Secretariat-General, the press and the media for the efforts they had made to reach a consensus on the government blueprint.

Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, extended sincere congratulations to HM the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister on the approval of the Government Action Plan.

Addressing the parliamentary extraordinary meeting, he also conveyed thanks and appreciation from HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to the Speaker and members of the Representatives Council following the endorsement of the Government Progarmme.

He asserted that the improvement of the government’s four-year action plan embodies the Representatives Council’s confidence in it, noting that all ministries and government department will begin implementing the Programme’s priorities, policies and initiatives immediately, in line with HM the King’s visions and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s directives. He added that the Council of Representatives is an integral part of Team Bahrain.

The Deputy Prime Minister indicated that the amended edition of the Government Programme on which the Executive and Legislature reached consensus includes a set of priorities, foremost of which is improving the citizens’ living standards in a way that preserves their gains.

Other priorities include justice, security and stability, as well as economic recovery and sustainable development, in addition to quality and competitive government services, he said.

He added that the priorities have been set after reaching consensus on six themes, namely raising the standard of living, the sovereign and legislative theme, infrastructure and environment, economic recovery and financial sustainability, community services, government performance and digital transformation, noting that they will be implemented through the policies and initiatives included in the Government programme.
