RNO Inaugurates Oman National Hydrographic Office Building

Muscat, The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) celebrated today the inauguration of the Omani National Hydrographic Office building, under the patronage of Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF).

The occasion was attended by Maj.Gen. Mattar Salim al-Balushi, Commander of the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), Rear Admiral Saif Nasser al-Rahbi, RNO Commander, Eng. Salim Mohammed al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, Eng. Yaqoub Khalfan al Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries, and a number of senior SAF officers.

It is worth noting that the Omani National Hydrographic Office was established in April 1995. It provides national hydrographic services, preserves hydrographic information like scans and others and collects hydrographic data. It also issues marine and electronic maps, and navigational publications for all Omani marine areas and water bodies.

The office also preserves and maintains the national hydrographic archive and the various hydrographic requirements, in addition to monitoring the navigational safety of Omani waters, and providing hydrographic advice to national authorities and bodies.
