Rusayl/Bidbid road widening project reaches 60 percent completion

Muscat: The completion rate of the Rusayl Road expansion project in Bidbid has reached 60 percent, with four lanes in each direction to meet traffic safety requirements according to the Road Design Manual.

During the field follow-up of the project, His Excellency Eng. Khamis bin Muhammad Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, urged the executing company to expedite the implementation of this important project, and open it to traffic to facilitate the movement of citizens and residents between the Governorate of Muscat and the rest of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman with ease.

In a statement to Oman News Agency, His Excellency explained that the project works include rehabilitating the existing paving layers, and adding the third and fourth lanes to meet the design needs and expected traffic volume during the next twenty years.

In addition to the construction of service roads and 4 pedestrian crossings to connect the urban communities on both sides of the road, the expansion of all existing valley bridges, such as the Wadi Al-Jafnain Bridge and the Fanja Valley Bridge in the town of Al-Amqat, and the construction of two new intersections for Ghala Road, and another in Sih Al-Ahmar.

His Excellency pointed out that the project includes the expansion of the Fanja intersection and Bidbid intersection, the construction of a new valley bridge in the Wadi al-Daboun area, the construction of box culverts to drain rainwater, works to protect services and other facilities, as well as the construction of future pipelines for services.

Additionally, His Excellency was briefed on the workflow of the project and the completed stages, in addition to examining the challenges and discussing their solutions, and the progress of work in bridge works, including the Wadi Fanja Bridge. His Excellency listened to a detailed explanation of the completed and ongoing stages.

The road was designed with the highest standards and technical specifications for the construction of modern roads, by providing the road with lanes leading to intersections and roundabouts, in addition to entry and exit paths.
