Russia, Africa to work for multipolar world order

Russian and African leaders on Friday agreed to deepen win-win cooperation geared towards building a fairer, more balanced, and multipolar world order.

Conceding the two-day Second Russia-Africa Summit – Economic and Humanitarian Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, the leaders signed a final communique highlighting the need to keep foreign confrontations away from the Black Continent.

They agree to enhance the UN role and coordinate efforts at the UN Security Council regarding the sanctions on African countries, according the communique published by the Kremlin website. Leaders of both sides ledged to resist the UNSC imposition of coerced sanctions on sovereign countries as part of policies that undermine food and energy security.

The leaders agreed to work together for reforming the UNSC system tacking stock of the new geopolitical realities and the African demands for fairer representation at the council.

They agreed to cooperate for preventing politicization of international and regional organizations, strengthen the partnership between Africa and BRICS (a grouping of the world’s emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), and launching a partnership between the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the African Union (AU).

The leaders approved the action plan 2026 aimed to activate the partnerships in the economic and humanitarian areas, increase the trade exchanges, launch new free trade areas, increase the Russian exports to Africa, and usage of national currencies in trade exchanges.

Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed pledge that his country would meet African countries’ needs of wheat and offer a humanitarian aid package amounting in value to RUB 1.2 billion (nearly USD 11.9 million) in support of the health sector in Africa.

The two-day gathering brought together President utin, and Chairperson of the African Union (AU) and President of the Union of Comoros Azali Assoumani as well as several African heads of state and government.
