Moscow, Russian officials say they have captured more than 770 Ukrainian fighters in the past 24 hours from the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol.

The latest figure comes a day after Moscow announced that 959 Ukrainian fighters had surrendered to Russian forces in the besieged steelworks since the start of the week.

In total, the Russia Defence Ministry says 1,730 Ukrainian combatants have been captured from the site so far.

The figures were not confirmed by Ukrainian sources.
