Safety first in tourism

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism organised the Oman Tourism Forum on Tuesday as part of World Tourism Day, marked this year under the theme ‘Rethinking Tourism.’

 

His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, opened the exhibition which saw the participation of several local government and private institutions operating in the field of adventure tourism.

 

The forum is organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) and Visit Oman.

 

The aim of the forum is to promote the Sultanate of Oman as one of the best destinations in the world for adventure tourism, taking advantage of some of its natural resources.

 

Saeed al Obaidani, Director-General of Tourism Development at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said, “Through this forum, we seek to raise awareness of the importance of providing security and safety requirements for operators and practitioners of adventure tourism activities, addressing procedures related to licensing and reviewing technical methods in promoting tourism for this type of activities.”

 

Mohammed al Busaidi, Chairman of Omran, said that the forum is an opportunity for all parties to meet and discuss the development of adventure tourism in the Sultanate of Oman.

 

Eng Saeed bin Salim al Shanfari, CEO of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, speaking to the media, confirmed that several events had been organised at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) for the benefit of World Cup fans in coordination with Omran and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

 

Azzan al Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the MoHT for Tourism, said that spots are identified to develop adventure tourism in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence following global safety standards.
