Saudi Arabia, US urge extending Sudan truce deal

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States, the co-sponsors of Sudan truce agreement, called on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to continue consultations on the extension of the deal beyond May 29.

The deal, though incomplete, will facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people if extended, the Saudi SPA reported on Saturday.

The parties to the conflict have to continue commitment to protection of the Sudanese civilians even in case of failure to extend the short-term ceasefire agreement, according to SPA report.

The ceasefire deal is set to expire at 9:45 on Monday, Khartoum local time.
