Sohar Port, FZ Sign Partnership MoU with Brazil’s Pecem Port

Sohar, The Port of Sohar and its free zone today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Brazilian Port of Pecem to expand the scope of global maritime and logistic operations for all parties.

The aim is to accomplish common goals of generating economically feasible business opportunities, exchange expertise and utilize the most modern techniques of sustainability in the sector of green hydrogen and renewable energy.

This cooperation fits with the strategy of the Port of Sohar and free zone to help consolidate the facility’s status as the fastest growing port in the world that also serves as a central logistics hub in the region.

Mark Geilenkirchen, CEO of Port of Sohar, said that the MoU is the latest addition to the Port’s international partnerships.

The MoU seeks to link the Sultanate, through direct maritime routes, with the world’s greatest ports and enhance the Port’s economic competitiveness, said Geilenkirchen.

The MoU benefits from the role of Brazil as a leading nation in food exports, said Geilenkirchen, noting that cooperation with the country will constitute a cornerstone of growth for the food industries complex at the Port of Sohar.

On his turn, CEO of Port of Pecem, lauded the strategic location of Port of Sohar which falls in the vicinity of global maritime routes between Europe and Asia. He added that the Port of Sohar will enable his company to explore economic opportunities in the region. He said he looks forward to expanding cooperation between the two parties and achieving added value.
