Sultanate Participates in 10th OIC Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers
Deliberations of the 10th Islamic
Conference of the ministers of tourism in the member’s states of the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) began in the Bangladeshi
Capital, Dhaka today. The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of
Tourism, is taking part in the conference. The Sultanate’s participating
delegation is being led by Ahmed bin Nasser al-Meherzi, Minister of
Tourism.
The inauguration ceremony of the conference, which comes under
the theme ” Enhancing Regional Integration through Tourism” was held
under the patronage of Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
During this session, OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin
Ahmed al-Othaimeen presented his report to the Ministers of Tourism of
the OIC Member States.
The report included the implementation of the OIC framework for
development and cooperation in the field of tourism in terms of
promoting Islamic tourism, celebratory activities of Islamic tourism
capitals, promotional tourism activities, organising tourist exhibitions,
establishing tourism portal, tourism capacity building programmes,
tourism publications, and tourism statistics and studies.
The conference also discussed the development of Islamic
cultural and heritage tourism, the strategic roadmap for the
development and promotion of Islamic tourism.
Dhaka is chosen as the “City of Tourism” for 2019 by the tourism
ministers of the OIC member states at the closing session of the 10th
Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM).
The conference, attended by high level representatives,
including 15 tourism ministers of 25 OIC member states, adopted the
Dhaka declaration to preserve and promote Islamic heritage worldwide.
