The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, participated in the Travel Trade Show ITB Berlin under the patronage of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and in the presence of a number of ministers, undersecretaries, heads and members of official participating delegations. ITB continues until March 11th.
The pavilion of the Sultanate includes 37 institutions and companies that promote the Sultanate in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism to take part in this show, the largest of its kind in the international tourism industry, which the Sultanate is keen to participate in annually to promote the Sultanate with participation of 185 countries around the world.
The Minister of Tourism met with a number of officials from the countries participating in the show in order to find a number of areas of joint cooperation.
The Sultanate’s participation this year coincides with the opening of the new Muscat International Airport on March 20th and the facilities granted by the electronic system to obtain a visa to visit the Sultanate from March 21st , in addition to the first quality participation of the Oman Airport Management Company at the Berlin Exhibition specifically, along with the participation of the Geological Society of Oman to introduce the world’s leading scientific experiment on the Sultanate to simulate living on Mars.
It is worth noting that the year 2017 witnessed an increase in the rate of visitors to the Sultanate. Last year the number of visitors registered a growth rate of 4.7% compared to the previous year. The number of visitors to the Sultanate reached 3 million and 300 thousand visitors compared to 3 million 151 thousand in 2016, bringing the annual growth rate for the period 2009 to 2017 up by 9.6 percent.
