Transport and Communications Ministry Organizes Workshop on Maritime Labor Convention 2006

The Ministry of Transport and Communications, represented by the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs, organized a national workshop on Maritime Labor Convention 2006 in coordination with the Ministry of Manpower and the International Labor Organization(ILO).

The opening ceremony was sponsored by Dr. Yahya bin Nasser al- Khousaibi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Legal Affairs.

The seminar aims to inform the specialists about the requirements of the agreement in preparation for the accession of the Sultanate. The seminar was attended by about 30 participants from various relevant bodies including the General Union of Workers in the Sultanate, Oman Ports Companies, Maritime Transport Companies, Ship Owners and a number of Omani seafarers.

The workshop was organized by the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Communications to comply with the international requirements for the implementation of international conventions and to regulate maritime work with all its professional, technical and legal requirements, maritime labor contracts and to guarantee the rights of seafarers in the Sultanate.

The opening ceremony of the workshop was attended by Hamad bin Khamis al- A’meri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Labor Affairs, a number of advisors, director’s general, ILO experts and Omani seafarers.
