UN General Assembly Elects Oman’s Permanent Representative to UN as Fourth Committee Chairman

New York— The UN General Assembly elected by acclamation Dr. Mohammed Awad Al Hassan, the Sultanate of Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) as the Chairman of the Fourth Committee “Special Political and Decolonization Committee” during the 77th session of the General Assembly.

In his speech to the General Assembly, Dr. Mohammed stated that Oman was keen to chair the “Special Political and Decolonization Committee,” stemming from its belief in the freedom of peoples and their independence, as well as the importance of ending colonization in line with the UN’s related decisions. He also reiterated the importance of the committee’s provisions regarding the use of outer space for peaceful purposes, issues related to media, the Palestinian cause, the occupied Syrian Golan region, the effects of nuclear radiation and means of limiting them, peacekeeping operations and the University of Peace, among other provisions.

Dr. Mohammed affirmed that Oman will work closely with the President of the General Assembly and all member states in all matters of concern to the committee in a bid to realize aspirations of all countries.
