University of Technology’s Board Approves Academic Promotions Regulation

Muscat, The board of University of Technology and Applied Sciences today approved the Academic Promotions Regulation to be endorsed at the university.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, Board Chairman.

During its second meeting of the year, the university’s board studied a follow-up report for the implementation of decisions of its first meeting for the academic year 2022-2023. These include the endorsement of an admission plan for the academic year 2023-2024, with an intake estimated at 9,000 students.

The board has coordinated with the Higher Education Admission Centre about the allocation of seats for the university through 2023-2024 academic year.

The coordination also covers measures to plan graduation requirements for programmes, majors and academic qualifications for the university’s branch in Musandam. It includes steps to implement mechanisms for merging the university’s branches in the wilayats of Nizwa, Salalah and Ibri, to form one branch in each wilayat.

The merger process materializes when its basic elements (academic, financial, administrative and technical) are finalized in accordance with legislations regulating the university’s status within two years from the date of issuance of the decision.

The board commended the achievements made by the university’s students in the 9th sports tournament of GCC higher education universities and institutions. The university’s students won the “silver shield of excellence” at the level of all games in the session and bagged 16 assorted medals.

Regulations for academic promotions at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences form part of its strategic plan. They are designed to regulate its workflow, develop its academic specializations, improve of its academic staff to ensure better outputs.

The regulations include definitions, general provisions, the formation of promotion committees, promotion conditions, evaluation criteria, arbitration controls, and promotion procedures. Ends/Bishara
