US to deploy further 1,500 on Mexico border due to illegal migration increase

The US Department of Defense will deploy an additional 1,500 troops along its southwestern border with Mexico to reduce illegal migration, according to the Pentagon on Tuesday.

The move is “due to an anticipated increase in migration,” according to the Department of Homeland Security, who made the request for the dispatch.

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are implementing sweeping measures with our regional partners to reduce irregular migration, ensure safe, orderly, and efficient processing, and promptly remove individuals without a legal basis to remain in the United States.” Currently, some 2,500 military personnel are stationed at the border. The additional deployment will cover a period of 90 days
