Washington announces the death of an American citizen in the Iranian bombing of the Kurdistan region

Baghdad The Deputy Spokesman for the US State Department, Vidant Patel, confirmed today, Thursday, the killing of an American citizen in an Iranian missile attack targeting opposition sites in the Kurdistan region yesterday, Wednesday.

Patel said he could not make any further comment on the matter due to privacy considerations.

Washington said yesterday that the strike did not lead to the death of any US officials or military personnel.

Tehran bombed sites in the provinces of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan region with drones and missiles targeting the headquarters of most of the Iranian Kurdish opposition parties.

The attacks, which were claimed by Tehran, “resulted in the killing of 13 people, including a pregnant woman, and the wounding of 58, most of them civilians, including children,” according to a statement by the region’s counter-terrorism agency.
