GCC Housing Plans Discussed, Award Winners Feted

Muscat, A dialogue session titled “Housing Projects and Plans in GCC States” was held today at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, on the sidelines of the ongoing “Urban October” conference and the “First GCC Housing Week”.

Attended by GCC ministers of housing and the GCC Secretary General, the dialogue session discussed themes that take centre stage in member states, as follows: “housing trends in future city projects” in the Sultanate of Oman, “innovative infrastructure technologies in housing projects” in the United Arab Emirates, “housing plans and policies aimed at achieving social welfare” in the Kingdom of Bahrain, “future vision of the urban sector” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, “principles guiding housing projects as elements in enhancing family stability” in the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait’s experience in establishing integrated cities.

Later, winners of the GCC Housing Award were honoured. First place was won by “Yeti City” project that was implemented by Omran Company; second place went to “Economic and Sustainable Housing Unit Designs” project presented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates; and the third prize was bagged by the “Residential Unit in Al Jar Neighbourhood of Yanbu Industrial City” project presented by the “Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu”, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

At the conclusion of the event, outstanding private sector establishments, charity organizations and individuals were also felicitated for presenting the best designs of economic and sustainable housing units. This was followed by the announcement of winners of the “Urban Planning Hackathon”.
