President of the UAE visits National Museum

Muscat: Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), today visited the National Museum as part of his current state visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

The UAE President was greeted upon his arrival by Jamal bin Hassan Al Moosawi, Secretary General of the National Museum.


Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and his accompanying delegation toured the museum and its galleries. He was briefed about the National Museum’s galleries and important aspects of the history and civilization of the Sultanate of Oman, namely the Land and the People Gallery, the Time line Gallery and the Splendours of Islam Gallery.

The UAE President also viewed the collections loaned from the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi. They include Iznik ceramics from the 16th Century, in addition to the objects previously loaned by the National Museum for temporary display in the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which feature the historical treasure of Al Waqba that includes more than 400 silver dirhams dating back to the early Islamic eras.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed also went on tour of the Sultan Qaboos bin Said`s Corner (the Dearest and Purest of Men) and viewed the original letter No. 1 (Letter of Will) addressed by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said to the Royal Family Council through the Defense Council.

He also took note of objects that embody the Omani-Emirati relations, comprising the demarcation agreement between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates relating to the boundary sector from Umm Al Zumul to Eastern Uqaydat, which was signed by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the UAE, in addition to a single-edge curved sword (kittārah), presented by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 2004.

The UAE President also viewed a Scale model of Qasr Al Hosn Fort at the Emirate of Abu Dhabi presented by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, on the occasion of the demarcation of the borders between Oman and the UAE in 1999.
