Energetic Italy Take Care of Business against Hungary

Rome— Italy have moved top of the Nations League A Group 3 standings after controlling proceedings en route to a 2-1 victory over Hungary in Cesena last night.

Roberto Mancini’s men put in another impressive performance following their draw with Germany over the weekend, as the Azzurri continue to try and put their World Cup qualifying disaster behind them.

The deadlock was broken, thanks to a Nicolo Barella scorcher from distance, as his right-footed strike found the top corner and left Denas Dibusz with no chance.

After Alessandro Bastoni almost doubled the advantage, Lorenzo Pellegrini did just that soon after. Matteo Politano sprinted down the right and pulled back from the by-line, allowing the Roma man to tap home from eight yards out, the Spanish MARCA newspaper reported.

Hungary, who stunned England last Saturday, were handed a lifeline in the 61st minute when Gianluca Mancini tried to divert a Attila Fiola cross out of play, only to put it behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Despite the setback the Azzurri kept their cool and saw out the rest of the match with relative ease, with coach Mancini even finding time to hand a debut cap to Alessio Zerbin.

The result sees Italy top the group with four points, one up on Hungary.
