National road safety committee reviews traffic situation in Oman

Muscat: The National Committee for Road Safety held a meeting at the Directorate General of Traffic here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Lt.Gen Hassan Mohsin Al Shraiqi, Inspector-General of Police and Customs, Chairman of the Committee.

The committee looked into the situation of traffic in Oman. It studied annual indices and statistics on the levels of road safety, notably the results of analysis of road accidents.

The meeting touched on the efforts undertaken by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) to devise an educational syllabus on road safety in cooperation with the departments concerned. It valued the outcome of studies on this syllabus due to its role in engendering road safety culture in students and the young generation.

The committee also underscored the role of traffic safety institutes in consolidating the concept of road safety and engaging all segments of society in promoting it. The committee also valued the role of the media in spreading awareness about road safety.
