Oman partakes in the 145th IPU Assembly in Rwanda

KIGALI: The Council of Oman is taking part in the 145th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and its related meetings and the 210th Session of the IPU Governing Council, being held in Kigali, Rwanda, from October 11 to 15.

The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman, headed by Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, took part in the inaugural ceremony held under the auspices of President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda in the presence of representatives, speakers and deputy speakers of regional and international parliaments.

The Assembly will elect the president and deputies for the 145th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. It will look into requests to include the emergency item on the agenda of the General Assembly. This is in addition to general discussions on the parliamentary momentum required for accelerating the development process in countries with high-level of migration.

The Assembly will debate parliamentary action that needs to be taken on international migration and human-trafficking issues. Other issues under consideration include environmental degradation and its effects on the proliferation of terrorism; the impact of war and atrocity on civilian populations; war and climate change as triggers of global food insecurity; and the situation of the human rights of parliamentarians. — ONA
